Custom Treatments to Ward Off Cavities and Gum Disease

At Pasadena Smile Center, Dr. Molayem works closely with each patient, and provides them with a custom plan to prevent future cavities, tooth loss, and gum disease. Every person is different, and your prevention plan could include several steps, based upon the current condition of your teeth and gums. Some of the treatments and processes we may recommend to help you preserve your teeth include:

Regular professional cleanings: A professional cleaning is a critical aspect of maintaining healthy teeth and gums. While most people require these cleanings every six months, some others benefit from four cleanings per year.

Dental sealants: Your teeth may need to be protected with a sealant. These are a coating placed on the chewing surface of the teeth, or in some cases, to protect any areas in which the root of the tooth is exposed. Sealants are long-lasting, and may be a recommended part of your prevention plan.

Ozone treatment: Ozone dental therapy works to disinfect and prevent common dental issues with the administration of ozone. The negative charge of the ozone is naturally attracted to areas of inflammation and infection. When a cavity is exposed to ozone, which not only kills the bacteria surrounding the tooth, but alters the environment so the bacteria is unable to flourish. The bacteria that live in your mouth thrive on acidity. Ozone neutralizes oral acidity, altering pH levels, so damaging oral bacteria is eradicated, leading to a healthier mouth and teeth. Ozone dental therapy is an effective, natural way to reduce infection and inflammation, and is an outstanding preventative treatment to help a patient avoid the need to undergo a root canal treatment.

Healthy eating habits: If you brushed your teeth after every meal, it would benefit you. While it is recommended that you do, even more frequent brushings can remove the debris left from snacking or drinking sugary drinks. If you avoid constant snacking and switch to water rather than sugary drinks such as soda, fruit juices, or sweetened coffee or tea, your teeth and mouth will benefit. Always at least rinse your mouth with water after eating.

Antibacterial treatments: Serious cases of gum disease may require special antibacterial treatments to halt the growth of bacteria under the gums.
